Lovely portrait! The Stingray Racer (its official name) was adapted from the Corvette SS, a one-off concept car that really was built for racing. Designed by Bill Mitchell, its look was a big influence on GM's production car, the 1963 Corvette Stingray. Because GM was following a ban on racing, the word "Corvette" appeared nowhere on this car, for awhile. I saw this same car win a race at Marlboro, Marfyland, in 1959 (I was three weeks old), driven by Washington, D.C., dentist Dick Thompson, a superlative driver of the era. Mitchell eventually retired the car and converted it for his personal transportation. Some commuter car! If you saw the Elvis Presley movie "Clambake", you might have caught sight of its brief appearance.

Dofn Sorry for the delay in response. I was very fortunate to be able to photograph these beautiful cars while I was in Atlanta. Very interesting history. Thank you
